Jazz Up Wordpress
Get with the rhythm…
Jazz up your Wordpress blog installation with the latest upgrade to Wordpress 2.7 “Coltrane” named after the saxophonist John Coltrane.
The Jazz theme emphasizes the ability to improvise and customize the new Wordpress user interface. There is a new dashboard and menus with fully customizable panels that you can drag and drop, re-size, hide and rearrange to suit your-self.
You can respond to comments and write posts directly from the dashboard. And there’s a new facility to make a post sticky so that it always appears on the page. And you can snag content from the internet with “press this” to use for content in your posts.
There’s also a built in upgrade facility so you no longer need to manually FTP the files or install plug-ins to carry out the task for you.
CAUTION! The upgrade may cause problems and prevent your theme and/or plugins from working properly. You should check that your theme is compatible first.
If you have another Wordpress domain that you can use for test purposes it’s a good idea to put your theme and plugins on that domain, install the upgrade to it, to be sure that it’s compatible.
Then you can then install the upgrade to your main blog with peace of mind.
Watch the video here to get a feel for the new upgrade.
Once installed, it should make managing your Wordpress blog a breeze.
So far I’m lovin it…
Until next time
Ken

I have recently upgraded to wordpress 2.7, luckily all the plugins and the theme I use seem to be compatible with 2.7. Great idea about having a test blog though. I really like the feel and layout of the new dashboard, it is much improved over previous versions.

Glad you are enjoying 2.7. It takes a while to get used to it but I think it’s great. I believe that there are very few issues with themes. most of the problems are with plugins, especially those that involve comments.

Hi Ken,
Interesting email exchange we had earlier, wasn’t it Ken? We need to keep an eye out for that stuff, huh?
Ken, just thought I’d let you know that we’re having a pow-wow over at Gary-Land. Come and introduce yourself and get some more back linkage. LOL! We’d like to know what you and everyone thought about the Profit Pulling Project Newsletter #1.
Could everyone please make comments here:

Hey Gary,
Thanks for stopping by. It was interesting and yes we will have to be vigilant. As Alex is teaching, we want to build honest, ethical and upright businesses for the future (that’s why I joined Alex in the first place). And we will do that by building strong relationships with each other and the visitors and subscribers to our sites.
I will certainly visit Gary-Land later, off to work shortly but I’ll stop by this evening.
Cheers
Ken
Hi Ken and fellow students,
Love your blog, Ken. great work! Please add me to your blogroll. I’ll do the same.
LISTEN, EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION! I have a terrific Christmas present for all of you. Terrific is an understatement. This will most definitely be the greatest Christmas present you will recieve this year! I guarantee it. It’s worth $4,000! Yes, not a typo.
Everyone get over to my blog ASAP at http://www.marklucianoonline.com and read the posts from Dec.16th and Dec.18th. Don’t wait even one second or you will miss this. It isn’t going to be there for long, and I want all of my fellow students to get this NOW!
Tell all of our fellow students about this, but nobody else please. If you wait you’ll be very angry when you see what you missed out on.
Hi Ken, you (and a few of our fellow students) got a lot of guts upgrading to WP 2.7 already!
It seems that the few times I tried to be a “technology pioneer”, I ended debugging the software for someone else
I’m glad that things are going well for all of you with WP 2.7 but I’ll stick to good old 2.6.5 until at least until the next 2.7 release. Should not take long, the WP community is truly awesome.
Warm regards,
Rov

Hey Rovaal,
WP 2.7 is a good upgrade and a major one. There are a few issues with plugins that I am aware of but on the whole it’s a great upgrade. By waiting you will probably be ok as the plugins with issues will no doubt be made compatible.
I do understand your caution, you need to feel comfortable about making the change. You could try it out on a test WP installation with all of your plugins installed to satisfy yourself first. That’s what I did. You can also back up your installation and make copies of your wp-content file etc. so that you can go back if it’s not working. The following plugins will help you with that:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/
If you have any problems just ask and I will try my best to help.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Cheers
Ken
