Good Move

April 21st, 2009

It’s been a really hectic few weeks, as you can probably tell by the lack of activity around here, I’ve finally moved house.

As moves go I guess it’s been relatively good. I still have a few boxes to unpack and sort through but otherwise, I’m pretty much settled in. I have my computer up and running now, that’s the main thing.

So how have things been going for you over the last few weeks?

Well for me, my list has continued to grow, mainly due to the giveaway events that I signed up for. The latest giveaway that I am involved with is the Impact Giveaway which is due to begin on April 23rd. These giveaways really are a great way to build your list.

I am pleasantly surprised that I have had a steady stream of traffic coming to this blog, despite the lack of activity from me. Hopefully, that will continue and increase once I get a few posts published.

I hope all is well with you and I am looking forward to getting things going here again.

All the best

Ken

More Giveaway List Building Magic

More Giveaway List Building Magic.

There has been a spate of giveaway events lately; increasingly so since Jason James released his produce “Giveaway Riches”. This is great but I wonder how long this will remain an effective list building strategy with so many events being held.

It’s my guess that they will have to slow down or evolve over time to remain worthwhile. If interest slows, so I guess will the number of events being held.

But maybe, as long as both members and contributors are benefitting and getting value from the events, they will be well supported for the longer term.

Time will tell I guess but I would love to know what you think about this.

Next Event:

The latest, and potentially the best of these events is about to start:

The Friday the 13th Giveaway

7 Steps To Build Your List

March 4th, 2009

Are you building your list?

If you are then great!

If not, are you participating in giveaway events?

You should be!  The secrets out, it’s a great list building strategy.

I get a steady trickle of subscribers to my list via my free list building ebook on this blog (if that includes you, thankyou for joining, I have some good things planned for the future).

But now my list is growing at a steady pace, all thanks to giveaway events. And it’s really easy to get involved.

What You Need

1. Something to give away, if you don’t have your own gift you can use some PLR that you have giveaway rights to;
2. An auto responder service;
3. A domain name;
4. A hosting account;
5. A simple squeeze page;
6. A simple thank you page;
7. The knowledge to link them all together.

And that’s really all you need, except of course some giveaway events to participate in.

How To Set It Up

To begin, you will select a suitable gift, and then you will set up an auto-responder list-name and Web-form. I use a new list-name for each gift product so that I know what my subscribers are interested in.

Include the re-direct URL on the confirmed opt-in set up to send your subscribers to your thank you page.

Create your web form and enter the appropriate code into your squeeze page. Set up your thankyou page with the gift name and download link. You don’t need to do anything elaborate for your pages, they only need to be very basic and simple.

Once you have all of that you just need to assemble a folder containing all of the files for your giveaway offering including an image, squeeze and thank-you pages, .pdf file etc. for your gift.

You then FTP the folder and files up to your hosting account into the public html folder.

Test It

Check that your gift and pages are set up correctly by entering your URL’s into your browser to see that they open as they should. If so, then you are all set to enter your gift into a giveaway event.

You will need to sign up as a contributor to the giveaway and enter your gift details. This will include the relevant URL’s, an image of your gift, the title and a short description. You then submit your gift for approval.

Once completed, you can use the same gift over and over on multiple giveaway events. This makes it really easy to do giveaways as you will probably only need to change a few words for each new event.

Some Good Events

These are some events that are just setting up that you could contribute to:

Friday The 13th Giveaway

The Big Fat Giveaway

The 100% Giveaway

It is free to join but you have the option to upgrade to a paid contributor. This has the added benefit that you get extra points that are required to rank and move your gift closer to the top of the list making it more likely to be selected.

You can also contribute additional gifts instead of just one and you can earn commission when people that you refer sign up and spend money to upgrade or buy any of the offers.

I hope that this has been helpful and you now can go on to participate in a giveaway event. And if you do, I am sure you will be pleased with the results.

If you need any further help, or you just want to ask a question or leave a comment, please do so and I will do my best to get your questions answered. I wish you luck with it. Happy list building!

The Final Curtain

Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching – The Final Module

The final Alex Jeffrey Coaching Program Module took place last night. Alex’s coaching has come to its formal conclusion, but it’s not the end.

Alex intends to continue holding training calls and webinars for his students. He plans to hold brainstorming sessions and webinars with expert guests. Already penciled in are Rich Schefren, Mike Filsaime and others.

So, although the formal modules are now complete, there is a whole lot more good stuff to come.

The Fortunate 500

The students of Alex, that’s a group of some 500, came to be known as the Fortunate 500. We received some high quality coaching from Alex and we count ourselves fortunate to have been able to take advantage of this opportunity.

Back in November, we set out to build our individual businesses. The aim was to set up an Internet Marketing business and in doing so to develop and implement skills that we can carry forward and use in any niche that we may choose in the future. Skills that can also be used offline to great benefit.

With such a large group the level of experience and skills amongst the students was wide ranging, as you would expect. There were complete novices and some very experienced marketers, and everything in between.

While for some of the students it was a steep learning curve, some came into the program well prepared. Some already had an established blog and other websites that were able to use to good effect.

Many of the students had a high level of knowledge and they were able to put this to good use helping others as well as building their own blogs. The novices were helped along by both each other and these more experienced students.

In fact, whatever the problem, one of the students was usually able to resolve it. Sometimes, requests for help brought forward a multitude of different solutions for the same issue, very helpful and enlightening.

You Need A Plan

Some students clearly came prepared with a plan of how to best make the most of the opportunity before them. This was evident right from the start and they are the ones who have achieved the most over the past several weeks.

Those who have formulated their goals and developed a plan with good organization and time management have also done well.

Some are able to devote all their time to this process while others have many demands on their time, with full time jobs and young families to care for. Of necessity they have to take a longer term view, but it can be done. These people have earned my respect for their determination and commitment.

Overall, Alex has empowered us to devise and implement our own plan. In doing so we have had to gain, develop and use our knowledge, skills and experience to carry us forward. Alex has encouraged and motivated us, coaxing us out of our comfort zones so that we can fully implement our plans. And having done so, we are well placed to go forward with our own businesses in whichever direction we choose.

Time To Reflect

As Alex himself said, when we look back to where we were in November and reflect on how far we have come, the amount of ground that we have covered is staggering. In doing so we can all justifiably feel proud of our respective achievements whilst at the same time, identifying our most and least successful areas so that we can leverage our future efforts and propel ourselves on to bigger and better things.

The Way Forward

For me, I intend to continue with this blog and I will continue to build my Internet Marketing Business. I have many ideas that I would like to implement in the future. For now, I have one project that requires the bulk of my time and commitment and it is the key to moving forward with my plan.

I would also like to improve this blog, maybe with a new theme and some graphics but that will depend on the time that I have available. For now it is a fairly plain and functional theme which is fine as it’s the information that counts, not the look of the cover, in my humble opinion.

I would like to end this post at this point by giving a big THANK YOU to all of my fellow students. Many have helped me either directly or indirectly. And hopefully, I have been of some help in return.

But most of all, I would like to thank Alex Jeffrey for all of his efforts in making this excellent coaching program such an enjoyable and beneficial experience.

Happy Valentines Day

February 14th, 2009

Happy Valentines Day to you all. I hope you are having a great weekend with your loved ones.

It’s been an eventful week for me. It began with heavy falls of snow here in the UK. I picked up a streaming cold and have felt poorly for most of the week. But I have had some good news.

I have found a buyer and I have sold my house!

This means that I can move in with my partner, hopefully in just a few weeks.  This will be a challenging few weeks but a very welcome challenge it is.

This is the best valentines present we could have hoped for and has made us both very happy.

I hope that your valentines day and weekend is equally good.

Cheers for now

Re-Tweeting On Twitter

February 10th, 2009

I’ve been asked about re-tweeting twitter messages. What it is and how to do it. Read on to find out more about the power of re-tweeting:

When you see something useful on twitter, maybe a useful resource or an interesting blog post for example, you may want to share this with your followers. You do this by re-tweeting.

Re-tweeting can be done manually or some twitter clients (twhirl is one) have a re-tweet facility.

Re-tweeting is simply posting a tweet with either a copy of the original message or your own comment about it.

It’s best to include the @screen-name of the originator with your description or comment along with the original link or links.

(UPDATE: I neglected to mention and to include RT  for Re-Tweet in front of the @screen-name)

Here’s an example of a tweet by Gary Parkes that I re-tweeted:

————————————————————————–

Latest: @GarryParkes Interesting topic Gary, outsourcing, I’ll give this some consideration http://tinyurl.com/baj8nd

————————————————————————–

When you hit update your tweet will be broadcast and all of your followers will get to see your re-tweeted message. This gains wider exposure for the originators link and hopefully adds value for your followers.

This can also be a good way to build relationships with people. Wouldn’t you appreciate having someone re-tweet your messages and links? It’s also likely that when you have something that you would like to have re-tweeted that they will return the compliment.

But think about this for a minute. If you have something that has value that becomes very popular it could be re-tweeted multiple times. This is how tweets can become viral. Can you see the potential power in this?

Be selective about what you re-tweet. Used correctly, re-tweeting can add value for your followers, give you more exposure, and help to build your branding.

Happy twittering!

List Building And eMail Marketing

February 8th, 2009
As I mentioned in my last post, should be a priority for any business. But what do you do if you don’t have a list? How do you go about building your own list?

 Perhaps the best way to build a list is to give something away for free both on your site and in giveaways.

 Even better, create your own unique product to give away such as an e-book an interview or video. Give value in a quality product as an incentive for people to subscribe to your list.

 You need to have an opt-in form and/or a squeeze page (see example here) on your site to which you send traffic.

 You will need a good auto-responder service. I use Aweber as they have excellent facilities, great customer service and regular training webinars.

 As you build your list you need to build your relationship with your list. You need to gain their trust. You do this by telling your storey, giving your subscribers value and helping them to solve their problems.

 If people trust you and know that you give them good, valuable information, they are more likely to open your emails. Once you have established your relationship with your list then you can begin to send promotional offers. But not in every e-mail; mix it up. If all you do is pimp products, they will stop opening your e-mails.

Alex only has three auto-responder messages lined up. After that he uses broadcast messages.

 THE TRIPPLE THREAT AFFILIATE

 The triple threat affiliate is a term used by Andrew Fox to describe Alex Jeffrey’s e-mail technique. Alex then sends out a broadcast massage to his list. Then, using the facility in Aweber, he segments his list into three.

  1. Those who open the e-mail and click through the link;
  2. Those who open the e-mail but don’t click the link;
  3. Those who don’t open the e-mail.

Alex then targets each group with a new e-mail appropriate to each category. By using this technique, the aim is to increase in the click through rate.

Two Coaching Sessions

February 5th, 2009

We had two interesting coaching sessions with this week.

Alex returned from his holiday in the USA to give his students what he called his “Triple Threat Affiliate” coaching session on Monday. Once again, Alex covered a lot of ground in a short space of time.

In many ways it was a consolidation session. Having had some hands on experience, it was agreed that now would be a good time to re-assess where we are and review our goals for the next 90 days.

Organization and planning are key features of running our internet businesses. Alex related the story of how a friend and colleague, who he met at a seminar in the USA last year, was stuck and wanted advice from Alex. He perceived Alex to be a more advanced marketer than he was. Alex gave him some advice and encouragement.

Last week they met again by coincidence. This guy has applied himself to the development of his business and has overtaken Alex, at least in terms of money earned.

The keys to his progress seem to have been identifying and avoiding the obstacles that held him back, focused 90 minute work sessions, journaling, working smarter not harder.

Business is basically simple but we make it harder and more complicated than it needs to be.

Alex walked us through how he manages an email marketing campaign and showed us how we can learn and improve our efforts. List building is a key factor in the long term success of any business and methods of building and managing our subscriber lists were discussed.

The second session on Tuesday was a JV that Alex is participating in with Glen Dietzel. This was basically a promotion for a highly regarded rapid business acceleration program. During the seminar, some interesting information was covered. Whilst I took a lot of notes I had to take an important telephone call so I missed some of the information. There is a good review of the session over at fellow student Stephen Bray’s Blog.

My First Video

February 3rd, 2009

I’ve finally managed to get completed and online. It may not be a work of art but this is new territory for me, so I’m delighted to have completed this.

The original purpose for producing a video was to participate in the Alex Jeffrey Coaching Video Competition. I will be the first to say that this video has no chance in the competition.

Some of Alex’s students have produced some very creative video’s and even if mine was good enough to compete it has been published too late in the game.

But, in a way, I have won because I never would have done this if it wasn’t for my Alex Jeffrey Coaching. I have pushed through a boundary. And now I have begun, I will take this forward and learn the skills to create more and better video’s.

For me, this is about learning the process, not the quality of the product. It’s a case of “just do it” and get it out there! Discovering how to create it, how to upload it and how to post it to my blog.

I have taken the easy route with this first attempt and used Animoto. If you don’t know what Animoto is, it’s an online system that makes it really easy to produce a video and makes it more interesting than a simple slide show.

I will be more adventurous next time and ultimately will create some training video’s to help people learn how to build their own businesses.
